In most colleges, there are few offenses more serious than submitting a plagiarized paper. While some students straight out copy and paste their papers, many others unknowingly commit plagiarism because they’re not familiar with the rules. Even when you’re buying a custom essay online, it’s still your job to check for plagiarism. But what really makes a work plagiarized? Here are a few quick tips.

  • Attribute, attribute, attribute. If you’re taking even a vague idea from anyone, give them due credit. Paraphrasing a passage does not make it yours.
  • Find an original topic. Work on something few people have written about, and you’re less likely to come across something you can plagiarize.
  • Mark quotes. When taking notes, mark quoted passages to set them apart from original ideas. This makes it less confusing when you’re putting it all together.
  • Mention your source in the same sentence as the quote. Delaying the attribute makes it seem like you’re indirectly taking credit for the idea.
  • Separate quotes from originals. If you’re quoting an entire passage, give it its own paragraph instead of running it alongside your own text.
